TODO: <Insert clever marketing phrase here>
My favorite IDE happens to be Geany. It is very powerful and most important; it is very FAST!! However, there is one aspect of using Geany that kinda always annoyed me.
Turns out that Geany is built upon or uses GTK, so, it's really no Geany's fault. Once upon a time, I tried disabling the tool tips, however, that simply caused some strange behavior. Such as the Tree View Browser plugin freezing up. So, today I tried simply setting the timeout setting that is used to control when the tool tip is displayed. The value is expressed in milliseconds and the default value is 500.
In your home directory, create or edit:
nano ~/.gtkrc-2.0 gtk-tooltip-timeout = 30000
That will set the timeout to 30 seconds. It worked like a charm for me.
Here are a few details from my environment
Linux dev1 3.13.0-32-generic #57-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jul 15 03:51:08 UTC 2014 x8664 x8664 x86_64 GNU/Linux No LSB modules are available. Distributor ID: Ubuntu Description: Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS Release: 14.04 Codename: trusty Geany version: 1.23.1
Hope it helps someone!
